| Venice is one of the best-known Italian cities. It is made up of a group of isles interconnected with more than 400 bridges. The city is 40cm above the sea level, but the city is faced with the problem of sinking at a speed of 2 cm a year. When it rains heavily, beams are placed in order to enable people to move, as all the streets are flooded with water. The main waterway, i.e. the navigational artery of Venice is the Grande canal, dividing the city into two parts, 3750 m long and 62 m wide on an average. One of the things Italy is most famous for is fashion, so it is not surprising that in Venice you can find numerous shops selling designer clothes.Behind its gothic, renaissance and baroque facades, Venice hides truly rich oases of greenery, uniquely abundant and gorgeous gardens, more than 500 of them judging by Sansovinoʼs estimate in the 16th century. | |

His style is characterized by swift moves, vivid colours and an affinity for diverse perspective. He was commissioned to decorate the School, a task that took 23 years of his dedicated work. The paintings are given in a chronological order, starting from the second floor in the Hall of the Albergo. |

St Mark's Square St Mark's Square has always been the focal point and nucleus of Venice. The first citadel and church were erected on its stone foundation, the Ducale Palace and the Basilica di San Marco. The Basilica di San Marco is a unique combination of Byzantine, western European and Islamic style. The most beautiful relic in the Basilica is the Pala d'Or, a Venetian-Byzantine gold relic decorated in precious stones. Both tourists and pigeons gather in the square. Tourists willing to pay a price to eat and drink at smart cafes scattered on the pavements mostly come to this place in the city center . Designer shops lining the streets illuminate the whole square. The place abounds in sites that simply must be seen and explored, such as the Correr Museum, the Archeological Musem and the Museum del Risorgimento, housed with the Procuratie Nuova. Adjoining the Procuratie Vecchie is the triumphal Torre dellʼOrologio. The next entrance takes you through the Mercerie, Venice's main high street that stretches all the way to the Rialto. |
